Bitcoin is still figuring out how to upgrade. Upgrading bitcoin is challenging because the majority of bitcoin stakeholders (economic nodes (users, exchanges, wallets), miners, and developers) have to be in harmony. If you don’t have enough support, you could always try to get people to run a separate version of bitcoin, but it would split the bitcoin community, and your version might not get enough adoption. Bitcoin is aiming to be a decentralized savings asset for the world, and since it already secures more than 1T in value, bitcoin changes should be made carefully. If there is a proposed change to bitcoin, people should try to break bitcoin assuming the proposed change went through. Any change integrated into bitcoin should have a clear utility that serves bitcoin’s purpose of being nation-state resistant savings.
