Step 1: Download the Lava App

• Visit lava.xyz and download the Lava Vault mobile app on a secure device.

Step 2: Create a Vault for Each Beneficiary

1. Open the app and tap "Create New Vault".

2. Name your Vault (e.g., "Inheritance_JohnDoe") for clarity.

3. Set a Lava recovery PIN for the Vault.

   • Use a unique PIN for each Vault.

Note: consider providing the PIN to the legal council facilitating your estate planning, including instructions for it to be delivered to the Vault Beneficiary upon the execution of your will.

Step 3: Set Up PIN Recovery Methods

1. In your Vault, tap the Profile Icon (top-right) and select "Security".

2. Tap "Update PIN Recovery Methods".

3. Add your recovery email and verify it with the code sent to you.

4. Add your recovery phone number and verify it similarly.

Note: if you choose not to involve legal council in the delivery of the PIN to the Vault Beneficiary (see Step 2), either the email address or phone number used here must belong to the Vault Beneficiary.

Step 4: Add Trusted Recovery Contacts

1. In Security, tap "Set Trusted Security Contacts".

2. Add trusted individuals, such as the beneficiary and/or the executor of your will.

   • iPhone: follow these instructions to set up Apple Account Recovery Contacts.

   • Android: follow these instructions to set up a Google Inactive Account Manager.

Step 5: Verify iCloud Backup

1. In Security, tap "Verify Backup".

2. Enter your PIN to confirm that your encrypted recovery information is safely backed up to iCloud.

Step 6: Record Your Seed Phrase

1. In Security, tap "View Seedphrase".

2. Maintain a list of Vaults and their 12-word seed phrases. Store the list in a secure location, such as a bank safety deposit vault.

Step 7: Deposit Bitcoin to be Inherited by Vault Beneficiary

1. From the Vault's Homescreen, tap the QR Icon (top-left).

2. Ensure it's set to "Bitcoin" and see the note "Only send bitcoin to this address".

3. Send the intended Bitcoin amount to the displayed address.

*Repeat Steps 2-7 for each Beneficiary in your inheritance plan.

Step 8: Document and Communicate Your Plan

• Include your inheritance plan in your will or estate documents.

• Provide clear instructions to your beneficiaries on accessing the Vault and the recovery process.

Step 9: Test Your Plan

• Perform a test with a small amount of Bitcoin to ensure everything works as expected.
